Mintz Hires Top Litigator From Boies Schiller

June 29, 2020, 6:45 PM

Mintz hired litigation partner Courtney R. Rockett from Boies Schiller & Flexner, the latest in a long series of departures from David Boies’s high-profile firm.

Rockett, who represents large corporations including Sony and celebrities including Ron Howard and John Lurie in high-stakes civil litigation matters, joins Mintz in New York.

Her departure marks another exit for Boies Schiller, which has seen a steady stream of partners leave in recent months. Top partners and members of Boies Schiller’s management team have left for Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, Jenner & Block, and King & Spalding, among other firms.

Rockett joined Boies Schiller in 2001, just several years after its founding by David Boies. Boies has drawn scrutiny for work on behalf of controversial figures including Harvey Weinstein and Theranos Inc. founder Elizabeth Holmes.

Bob Bodian, managing member of Mintz, said hiring Rockett is part of a strategic growth of the firm’s litigation practice.

“We are thrilled to welcome an attorney of Courtney’s caliber to the firm,” Bodian said in a statement. “She is a seasoned litigator with an impressive 20-year track record guiding a diverse and substantial portfolio of clients through critical phases of complex litigation and delivering excellent results time and time again.”

She focuses her practice on complex commercial transactions, securities matters, entertainment and partnership disputes, and intellectual property litigation.

Some of her other high-profile clients include Tory Burch LLC, Eden Rock Group, Marya Group, Empowered Model Management, Fox Paine & Company, and the late Lauren Bacall, Neil Simon and Mike Nichols, according to Mintz.

“We wish Courtney all the best at her new firm,” Boies Schiller Flexner managing partner Nick Gravante said in a statement.
