Meta Beats Pixel Suit Over Info Obtained From North Carolina DMV

Meta Platforms Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging it wrongfully obtained consumers’ personal information from motor vehicle records of the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.

Plaintiff Dawn Dye failed to make a plausible allegation that the information Meta received through its online tracking “pixel” installed on the NCDMV website was obtained from a motor vehicle record as required under the Drivers’ Privacy Protection Act, Judge Terrence W. Boyle of the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina said May 10.

Boyle granted Meta’s motion to dismiss.
