Mercedes-Benz’s Shipping Lawsuit Returned to N.J. Court

Mercedes-Benz USA’s lawsuit against a group of shipping companies should go forward in New Jersey state, not federal, court, the U.S. District Court of the District of New Jersey ruled Dec. 12.

The auto company accuses Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics AS, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd., and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd., and their affiliates of a scheme to overcharge customers for “roll on, roll off” cargo services, which ended up costing Mercedes-Benz as it shipped vehicles to the U.S. from overseas.
