Maryland Digital Ad Tax Dispute Heads to State Supreme Court

Unhappy with a county court ruling that struck down Maryland’s one-of-a-kind tax on digital advertising, the Office of the Comptroller filed a direct appeal with the state Supreme Court and a petition allowing the state to collect the tax while the matter is adjudicated.

The Maryland comptroller filed a petition for writ of certiorari with the high court Tuesday. The petition would bypass a review by Maryland’s Court of Special Appeals, which was pursued last month by Attorney General Brian Frosh (D) on behalf of the state.
