Maryland Assault Weapons Ban Constitutional

Feb. 21, 2017, 8:06 PM UTC

A Maryland gun control law passed in reaction to the Newtown, Conn. massacre is constitutional, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled today.

The state’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013 banned the AR-15 and other military-style guns, as well as large-capacity magazines.

The en banc court decided that the banned weapons and magazines were not protected by the Second Amendment.

It vacated a February 2016 ruling of a panel of the court.

The case is Kolbe v. Hogan, 4th Cir. en banc, No. 14-1945, 2/21/17.
