An organization that’s called for the Biden administration to appoint more Latino and Latina judges rejected the latest slate of judicial nominations, targeting California’s two Democratic senators for recommending four non-Latino appointees.
Only one out of seven trial court nominees to California’s Central District this year have been Latino, although the White House has chosen numerous people of color for judgeships in a district which includes Los Angeles.
That’s “fundamentally disrespectful” to the district’s 46% Latino population, said Thomas Saenz, president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, in a prepared statement released Wednesday.
