First Black Woman Confirmed to Fifth Circuit by Senate (1)

US Magistrate Judge Dana Douglas won confirmation as the first Black woman to serve on the New Orleans-based federal appeals court.

The Senate voted Tuesday by a 65-31 margin to confirm Douglas to the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Douglas, who will fill a Louisiana seat on the circuit, is one of the few nominees President Joe Biden has picked for vacancies in states with two Republican senators.

Both Louisiana senators, Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy, voted to confirm Douglas.
