Louisiana Lawyer Disbarred After Taking Thousands in Firm Funds

A Louisiana lawyer who cashed dozens of checks totaling more than $10,000 for her own use that were intended for her former firm and its clients was disbarred by the state’s highest court.

But the Louisiana Supreme Court stopped short of imposing permanent disbarment Tuesday, calling it “unduly punitive under the facts of this matter.”

After Stacy Michele Young left her law firm in 2013, she received refund checks from the local court for court costs and other payments due to the firm and its clients, the court said.
