Louisiana’s Republican legislature on Thursday moved forward a new congressional map that would dismantle one of the state’s two Black-majority districts favoring Democrats.
The state Senate voted 27-10 for a proposal that, if enacted and permitted by courts, would likely elect Republicans in five of six districts, a one-seat Republican gain. The state House would clear the proposal for Republican Gov. Jeff Landry’s signature.
