Los Angeles Beats Bid to Block Project Over Gentrification Fears

A Los Angeles neighborhood group that alleged a “revitalization” project in a predominantly Black neighborhood would raise prices and push residents out failed to convince a state appellate court Thursday that state or federal law allows a disparate impact claim to be based on a theory of gentrification.

The Crenshaw Subway Coalition sued the City of Los Angeles and the City Council in 2018, seeking an order blocking the expansion of an existing shopping mall, and construction of additional office space, hotels, and residences in south L.A.
