California Supreme Court Justice Ming Chin, the longest-serving member, plans to retire and give Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) his first appointment to the high court.
Chin announced his Aug. 31 retirement on Wednesday during the seven-member court’s weekly meeting to consider which cases to review.
Newsom said in a statement that Chin “broke barriers” and has “made a lifetime of critical contributions to the legal system.”
