Linklaters Homes in on London Tower for New Global Headquarters

Nov. 6, 2019, 5:17 PM UTC

Linklaters LLP, the corporate law firm, is in discussions to lease a new office tower bordering London’s financial district as its global headquarters, according to people with knowledge of the negotiations.

The firm is seeking to rent about three-quarters of the planned development at 20 Ropemaker Street on the edge of the City of London, the people said, asking not to be identified as the talks are ongoing. The potential deal comes several years ahead of Linklaters’ lease expiry in nearby Silk Street and underlines the scramble for space among large firms seeking new premises.

A spokeswoman for Linklaters declined to comment.

Demand for London offices has so far been resilient to Brexit uncertainty. Linklaters is among a handful of corporate law firms currently seeking new buildings, while a raft of technology companies signing deals for new headquarters have put a squeeze on available space.

Work on the Ropemaker Street development began earlier this year and is due to complete in 2022. The 27-storey building will have about 450,000 square feet (41,800 square meters) of office space, according to its website.
