The Justice Department’s religious liberty guidelines added to its U.S. Attorneys’ Manual are a cause for concern, an LGBT rights advocate told Bloomberg Law.
Courts are wrestling with the issue of whether LGBT individuals can be discriminated against based on claims of religious liberty, as illustrated by Masterpiece Cakeshop Ltd. v. Colo. Civil Rights Comm., which is awaiting a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
