Lawyers Seek Order Blocking DOJ Overhaul of Deportation Reviews

A coalition of immigration defense organizations urged a federal court to prohibit the Justice Department from implementing a new regulation that they argue violates due process rights when challenging deportation orders.

The interim final rule “systematically disadvantages immigrants seeking to establish their claims and entitlement to relief from removal,” the immigrant defense lawyers argued in the lawsuit filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. The measure is due to take effect March 9.
