Lawsuit Over OPM’s Use of Mass Email System Dismissed (1)

A lawsuit challenging the Office of Personnel Management’s use of a government-wide email system under the E-Government Act was dismissed by a Washington federal court.

Because the plaintiffs failed to show standing, the US District Court for the District of Columbia didn’t have jurisdiction over the case, Judge Randolph D. Moss said Monday in dismissing several claims.

The email system, which allows senior officials to communicate directly with staff across the government, was used to ask federal employees to voluntarily resign. About 75,000 workers took the deal, which guaranteed them their salaries until September.
