Lawmaker Wants Answers From RFK Jr. on Potential HIV Fund Cuts

US Department of Health and Human Services cuts to HIV-prevention funding would have catastrophic consequences, a California lawmaker said in a letter pressing the agency to explain the decision.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) wrote to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Tuesday to show her “profound outrage and deep concern” over the reported elimination of $700 million in HIV-prevention funding at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The cuts stem from Congress’ recent continuing resolution to fund the government and pose significant threats for access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatment, HIV testing, and more, Waters said.
