Late Justice Scalia’s Son Returns to Greenberg Traurig

John Scalia, son of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, has returned to Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in its labor and employment practice in Northern Virginia.

Scalia is joining the Miami-based firm from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman where he was senior counsel in its Washington office.

Scalia works with employers on many aspects of their day-to-day workplace issues. He regularly defends employers in breach of contract, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation and whistleblower claims, among other matters, in federal and state courts. He also works on private mediations and arbitration proceedings.

“I am delighted to be once again working with my colleagues in Northern Virginia,” Scalia said in a statement.

“Greenberg Traurig does not simply maintain a labor and employment practice, but has been able to grow this practice strategically, delivering client value in a uniquely nimble, efficient, and collaborative manner. The firm’s talent, resources and history of empowerment will serve my clients well,” he added.

After practicing for a decade in the San Francisco Bay area, Scalia joined Greenberg Traurig as a partner in 2001, where he focused on representing technology companies and government contractors in Northern Virginia. In 2013, he made the jump to Littler Mendelson as a partner in its labor and employment practice before decamping two years later to Pillsbury.

“John is a highly-regarded attorney with decades of experience, and having him return to our team reflects the elite-level caliber of talent we are able to offer our clients,” said a joint statement by the co-chairs of Greenberg Traurig’s global labor and employment practice Naomi Beer, James Boudreau, and David Long-Daniels.

John Scalia is just the latest addition to Greenberg Traurig’s offices in and around Virginia. The firm also announced that it added Dominic Draye, former Arizona solicitor general, as a shareholder in its Washington and Phoenix offices.

Earlier last month it added Winston & Strawn duo Vivian Kuo and Andrew Sommer as shareholders in its intellectual property litigation practice in Washington and Northern Virginia.

John Scalia isn’t the only child of the former Supreme Court justice to practice law. His brother Eugene Scalia is a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington.
