Key GOP Senators Air Skepticism as Trump Gives Nod to Blanche

At least two Republicans have raised doubts about acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s confirmation prospects after President Donald Trump announced plans to make him “permanent attorney general,” though he’s notching support among other GOP members.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who’s become a frequent objector to Trump’s nominees and legislative priorities, on Thursday said Blanche’s anticipated nomination will face friction after the Justice Department’s attempt to create a $1.8 billion payout fund for victims of government “weaponization,” a plan the administration retreated from this week.
