Top Democrat Presses Target, CVS on Personalized Pricing (1)

Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. asked two dozen retailers, including Amazon.com Inc., CVS Health Corp., and Target Corp., about their use of individuals’ data to set personalized prices.

The companies have until May 26 to answer a letter the New Jersey Democrat sent Monday asking for details about how they use consumers’ gender, age, race, location, employment, and spending history, among other types of data, to inform or set prices. The lawmaker said the letters mark “just the beginning of this inquiry,” promising to ask questions across industries in the coming months.
