Kansas ‘Proof of Citizenship’ Voter Law Deemed Unconstitutional

A Kansas law that requires documented proof of citizenship for voter registration is unconstitutional and can’t be enforced, the Tenth Circuit said Wednesday.

The extra voter eligibility requirements in the state’s Secure and Fair Elections Act violates the Fourteenth Amendment’s equal protection clause and is preempted by the National Voting Rights Act, Judge Jerome A. Holmes said for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
