Justices Won’t Hear Gun Industry Challenge to NY Liability Law

The US Supreme Court declined to take up the firearm industry’s challenge to a New York state law seeking to impose civil liability when guns are used to commit crimes.

The justices on Monday denied a petition targeting a 2021 law that allows state and local governments and individuals to sue firearms manufacturers and dealers that fail to implement “reasonable controls and procedures” to prevent their guns from being used illegally.

The law has been used to bring public nuisance suits against the manufacturers of so-called “ghost guns"—firearms with no serial numbers that are assembled from kits.
