The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to consider the level of retirement benefits for personnel who hold “dual status” as civilian and military workers, a question that’s split the federal circuit courts.
The justices on Monday said they’d look at the dispute involving the so-called Windfall Elimination Provision, which lowers Social Security benefits for those paying into that and another federal retirement program, like the one for civil servants.
Uniformed service members are exempt from such deductions.
