The US Supreme Court agreed to take up an appeal by an energy company over Michigan’s efforts to shut down one of its underwater pipelines.
At the heart of the dispute taken up by the justices on Monday is Enbridge Energy’s Line 5, which runs between Michigan’s Upper and Lower peninsulas. The 645-mile line carries propane to heat homes in Michigan and parts of Canada,the company said.
Line 5 has come under scrutiny for its possible environmental impacts, and several lawsuits are pending.
