Justices Tap Sullivan & Cromwell’s Ratner to Argue Habeas Case

Sullivan & Cromwell’s Morgan Ratner became the latest in a handful of female attorneys asked by the Supreme Court to argue in support of a lower court opinion.

The court on Tuesday requested that Ratner defend the US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit’s rationale in a habeas case after US Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar informed the court that the government would no longer do so.

The government will defend the lower court’s outcome in Jones v. Hendrix, but not its reasoning, Prelogar told the justices in a June 17 letter.
