Supreme Court Sides With US in Deportation Notice Dispute (1)

The government isn’t required to give immigrants who lack legal status all the information about their removal proceedings in its initial hearing notice to lawfully deport them for failing to appear in court, the US Supreme Court ruled.

In a 5-4 decision on Friday, the justices said the petitioners in the case before them had received a proper notice under the Immigration and Nationality Act for hearings that they missed.

Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito said the government eventually gave each of them “a notice specifying the time and place of the removal hearing.”
