The US Supreme Court won’t look at when criminal defense attorneys are obligated to start negotiating a plea deal for their client.
The justices refused Tuesday to hear a Florida man’s claim that his attorney failed to adequately advise him on whether to plead guilty or go to trial for seven armed robberies he committed in 2010 at 18 and 19.
Quartavious Davis chose to plead not guilty and go to trial. He was convicted and sentenced to 159 years in prison for crimes he committed with other people. His co-defendants, however, pleaded guilty and got lighter sentences.
