Jackson, who became the first Black woman to join the Supreme Court last year, will publish a memoir entitled Lovely One, with an imprint of
“Mine has been an unlikely journey,” Jackson said in a statement about the upcoming book, according to the publisher.
The book is “an inspiring account of how Justice Jackson’s family ascended from segregation to her confirmation as a jurist on America’s highest court in one generation,” the publisher said in a release. “Her story is an ode to dreaming unabashedly, overcoming adversity, and seeking justice for all.”
The release date and financial terms for Jackson’s book are still unknown but several current justices have penned books, some which have garnered seven-figure deals. Current justices who have signed book deals since joining the court include Justices
Jackson, 52, will chronicle her history, from her childhood in Miami with educator parents in the 1960s who broke barriers to her participation in pivotal student movements at Harvard University to her balancing family life while advancing in “Big Law,” the publisher said. It will also include her history-making confirmation to the nation’s highest court.
“My hope is that the fullness of my journey as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, litigator, and friend will stand as a testament for young women, people of color, and dreamers everywhere,” Jackson said in the release, “especially those who nourish outsized ambitions and believe in the possibility of achieving them.”
The Associated Press earlier reported Jackson’s book deal.
