Justice Department’s Decision to End JPMorgan Fraud Case Upheld

JPMorgan Chase Bank will no longer have to face a False Claims Act suit because the Justice Department properly invoked its power to end it, a federal appeals court in Washington concluded.

A district court’s March 6 dismissal of the claims alleging deceptive foreclosure practices was reasonable, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia said.

Whistleblower Laurence Schneider, who filed the suit, didn’t raise any evidence of fraud on the district court or any exceptional circumstance suggesting the court shouldn’t defer to the DOJ’s decision, the three-judge panel said.
