US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito recused from a case involving the oil industry just ahead of oral arguments due to stock ownership in a company involved in the broader dispute.
With the case set to be heard Jan. 12, the court said Thursday that Alito wouldn’t participate due to his holding in ConocoPhillips, the parent of Burlington Resources Oil and Gas Company.
Alito originally didn’t recuse because Burlington Resources withdrew from a petition led by Chevron USA Inc. asking the court to consider the case. “Later briefing, however, noted that Burlington remained a party in the district,” according to ...
