Judiciary Panel Raises Concerns Over Courthouses Eyed for Sale

House Judiciary Committee Republicans challenged Elon Musk’s authority to close certain federal courthouses identified as part of the Trump administration’s cost-cutting initiative.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif), chair of the court’s subcommittee, said at a meeting Wednesday that he’d be happy to give Musk a bipartisan letter telling him the committee believes that courts housing judges can’t be closed unless there is already a new facility in place.

“We will assert our jurisdiction. There’s nothing more important to this committee than making sure that the people who adjudicate federal cases, including constitutional cases, have the assets necessary,” Issa said.
