Judge Temporarily Halts the Shuttering of Voice of America

A federal judge granted journalists with Voice of America a temporary restraining order against the Trump administration’s efforts to close the United States Agency for Global Media on Friday.

Judge J. Paul Oetken ruled in an opinion that the journalists adequately showed they’re likely to succeed on the merits of their lawsuit and that they’ll face irreparable harm absent injunctive relief.

“It would take USAGM months, if not years, to piece back together the infrastructure, staff, and contractual relationships to fully function again after this damage is done,” Oetken said.
