Judge Taps Special Counsel to Probe DOJ Lawyer in Migrant Case

Rhode Island’s top federal judge is tasking a special counsel with helping the court determine whether to pursue disciplinary action against a federal prosecutor for failing to disclose details about a detained immigrant’s criminal history.

Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr., appointed law school professor Niki Kuckes to investigate misconduct allegations against Kevin Bolan, the civil division chief for the Rhode Island US attorney’s office, according to an order filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
