Judge in Key Sandy Hook Ruling Confirmed to US Second Circuit

Maria Araújo Kahn, a Connecticut Supreme Court justice part of a consequential Sandy Hook shooting ruling, won bipartisan confirmation to the New York-based federal appeals court.

The Senate approved her confirmation, 51-42, on Thursday to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She’s President Joe Biden’s sixth appointment to the court that’s a chief venue for cases involving corporations and Wall Street.

Kahn, 58, replaces Judge José Cabranes, who was appointed by Bill Clinton and is retiring.

The former public defender and federal prosecutor largely avoided Republican criticism during her confirmation hearing in September 2022.
