Minnesota media members suing police for using unlawful force against them while they covered local protests after George Floyd’s killing in 2020, cannot pursue their claims in a class action, a federal trial court said.
Floyd’s murder while in custody by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin sparked weeks of riots in that city and nationally over police brutality and killing of people of color. The officer was later convicted for that crime and sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison.
