Jones Day partner David Grubman is heading to Sidley Austin to help lead the firm’s global mergers and acquisitions practice, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Grubman, based in Pittsburgh, has spent nearly 13 years at Jones Day and has been the M&A chair for the Americas region in the firm’s corporate practice. He represented equipment and services provider Evoqua Water Technologies Corp. in a $7.5 billion sale to Xylem Inc., and Archaea Energy Inc. founders in a $4.1 billion sale to BP Plc, according to his online profile.

Grubman will join Sidley as co-leader of global M&A, according to the two people, who requested anonymity because the move hasn’t been publicly announced. Grubman, Sidley Austin, and Jones Day did not immediately return requests for comment.

Sidley ranked 20th among law firms by guiding M&A deals valued at $93.6 billion last year, according to Bloomberg data. Jones Day ranked 43rd with deals totaling $43.6 billion.
