Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has named Justice Jimmy Blacklock as the next chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court, ending months of speculation about who will lead the state’s highest civil court.
Blacklock is currently a justice on the nine-member, all-Republican court. He takes over for Nathan Hecht, 75, who retired last week after aging off the court he had led since 2013.
