Jeanine Pirro Advances in Senate Panel US Attorney Do-Over Vote

July 24, 2025, 3:27 PM UTC

Jeanine Pirro and several other Trump US attorney nominees advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee after a procedural glitch prompted a new round of votes.

Pirro, a former Fox News host tapped to be US attorney for the District of Columbia, and the others went through Thursday for a second time in the Republican-led panel.

Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said Pirro was favorably reported out of the committee on July 17. But a walkout by Democrats over the circuit court nomination of Justice Department official Emil Bove prior to the vote left Republicans without a quorum.

Grassley said a re-vote was scheduled after a consultation with the Senate parliamentarian.

The committee on Thursday advanced Pirro, 12-10, along party lines to head the US attorney’s office she’s running now on an acting basis.

The other nominees, including Erik Siebert as US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, were approved as a bloc via voice vote. Some Democrats recorded no votes on specific nominees.

The meeting was interrupted by demonstrators protesting Pirro’s nomination.
