ISIS Conspiracy Conviction in Plot to Kill Pamela Geller Nixed

A defendant’s conviction for conspiring with ISIS to kill noted anti-Muslim activist Pamela Geller was overturned by the First Circuit Aug. 28.

The jury in David Wright’s trial was improperly instructed on the government’s burden in proving conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization, and the error wasn’t harmless, the opinion by Judge David J. Barron of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit said.

Several other counts on which Wright was convicted, however, including conspiracy to obstruct justice, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries were upheld.
