Iran Owes $15 Million for Death Tied to Beirut Embassy Bombing

The Islamic Republic of Iran owes $15 million for its role in the death of a federal government employee killed in the 1984 bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, a Washington federal court ruled Friday.

Edward Maalouf’s brother, Henri, and the estates of several other Maalouf family members demonstrated significant loss from the intentional infliction of emotional distress as a result of Iran’s deliberate and extreme conduct in providing material support for the bombing, Judge John D. Bates of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said.
