Intel Sued Over Processors That Allegedly Freeze, Crash (1)

Since at least 2022, Intel Corp. has sold processing units that chronically overheat, freeze and crash, a class action filed against the company in federal court says.

The plaintiff’s complaint filed Nov. 15 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware alleges that Intel Core 13th and 14th Generation Desktop Central Processing Units are defective. The defect causes the processors to overheat and the elevated voltage can cause “catastrophic and permanent damage to the processors that cannot be repaired,” the complaint says.

Intel didn’t publicly acknowledge the defect until July 2024, and has released microcode patches to correct ...
