Indiana Lawyer With Five Drunk Driving Arrests Gets Suspension

An Indiana lawyer who was arrested five times for drunk driving was suspended for 180 days by the state’s highest court.

Matthew C. Piatt violated three ethics rules, including one that prohibits “committing criminal acts that reflect adversely on the lawyer’s trustworthiness,” the Indiana Supreme Court’s Oct. 16 opinion said.

Piatt was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated five times between April 2017 and August 2018, the court said.

He didn’t report his first conviction to the state disciplinary authorities, and didn’t “timely respond” to its request for information, the court noted.
