Jason Brown takes the helm of the Association of Corporate Counsel in November. He says the role of corporate counsel is undergoing a shift, as the responsibilities of in-house lawyers increase at an accelerating rate.
It’s no longer enough to be an expert in the law, Brown said. In-house counsel must be tech-savvy and capable of navigating policy and politics; they need to be well-versed in everything from AI risks to global tax and trade. ACC’s job, he said, is to help general counsel find a voice in the C-suite for debating and deciding such issues.
