Immigrant Rights Groups Sue Over Biden’s New Asylum Rules (1)

The American Civil Liberties Union, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, and other immigrant rights groups sued the Biden Administration on Wednesday over new rules restricting asylum at the border.

The rules, implemented last week, block off some asylum claims until the level of crossings fall significantly. President Joe Biden said Republicans had left him “no choice” and said he would have preferred to address the issue through legislation.

The ban violates asylum law and the administration didn’t follow proper administrative procedure in implementing the rules, the complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia says.
