Illinois Prisoner Wins Revival of Medical Treatment Lawsuit

An Illinois inmate who claims prison medical staff refused him necessary medical treatment will be allowed to move forward with his lawsuit because it was improperly dismissed as a sanction, a federal appeals court ruled Aug. 7.

John Evans alleges that the medical staff at Graham Correctional Center refused to authorize surgery needed to treat a nasal problem. He sued medical providers Susan Griffin and Dr. Francis Kayira for allegedly violating his Eighth Amendment rights.
