Idaho parents can now apply for a $5,000 to $7,500 credit on their taxes for expenses incurred by sending their children to private schools, the state’s top court said.
Lawmakers who enacted the 2025 parental choice tax credit didn’t violate the state constitution by creating a private—but publicly funded—educational system, nor did they unlawfully effectuate a system that primarily benefits private interests instead of the public, the Idaho Supreme Court said Thursday. The legislature acted reasonably by enacting a law that allows parents to choose schools that best fit their childrens’ needs, Chief Justice G. Richard Bevan said.
