The IRS is giving $53 million in funding to support tax assistance programs across the US, the agency said Monday.
The agency awarded $53 million to 42 applicants for funding as part of the Tax Counseling for Elders program and 315 applicants to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for the year 2025. Both programs and their community partners help people prepare tax returns and answer certain questions for free. TCE is geared toward taxpayers over 60 and specializes in pension- and retirement-related topics, while the VITA program helps those earning under $60,000.
