Houston Astros Sellers Ask Texas High Court to Toss Fraud Suit

Houston Astros former owner McClane Champions LLC and stakeholder R. Drayton McLane Jr. asked the Texas Supreme Court to dismiss claims they inflated revenues from broadcasting the team’s games to induce the sale of the franchise, saying the purported buyer lacks standing to sue.

Houston Baseball Partners LLC assigned all of its rights under the purchase agreement to another entity, HBP Team Holdings LLC, “and relinquished all of its rights, including the right to purchase the Astros, before the transaction closed,” Champions and McLane, who held a controlling interest in the team, told the state high court Wednesday.
