High Court Takes Up ‘Critical’ Violent Crime Case (1)

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Friday to review an appeals court ruling in a gun case that struck down a criminal law that’s “of critical importance to the prosecution of violent crime,” the government says.

The case calls on the justices to apply their contentious 2018 decision in Sessions v. Dimaya, where the court said an immigration law was unconstitutionally vague. Justice Neil M. Gorsuch joined the court’s four Democratic-appointees to strike down the provision there.

The new case involves a federal criminal law‘s definition of “crime of violence” which applies to gun prosecutions.
