Gun Possession Ban for People in US Illegally Survives Challenge

A federal law that bars people living in the US illegally from possessing a firearm doesn’t violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms, the Eleventh Circuit ruled Monday.

Ignacio Jimenez-Shilon’s conviction for illegally possessing a firearm stands because the Second Amendment’s text and history show that the right to bear arms didn’t extend to “aliens,” the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said in an opinion written by Judge Kevin C. Newsom.
