Fujifilm Faces Renewed Suit for Infringing Mammogram Patent

The intellectual property arm of the University of South Florida may proceed with its suit that a Fujifilm subsidiary infringed its patent on an interface for digital mammography, the Federal Circuit ruled.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut dismissed the suit in May 2020, finding that the University of South Florida Research Foundation Inc. lacked standing to sue Fujifilm Medical Systems USA Inc. The university had licensed U.S. Patent No. 6,630,937 to its research arm, but didn’t give it all substantial rights in the patent, the court said.
